Hires Avenue Community Garden

Hires Avenue Community Garden was founded as way to address the food crisis in Salem City.

Run by community volunteers, it is our belief that it takes a city to raise a city. We provide FREE fresh vegetables & herbs to the community throughout the spring, summer, & autumn months.

Stand Up for Salem recognizes that for Salem's economic landscape to shift, we have to not only invest in our existing businesses but build up our local entrepreneurs to have a solid platform for growth.

JCPenney Rehabilitation Project

jcpenney.jpeg
Rehabilitation of the JC Penney building began in 2017, and since, the goal has remained the same – to provide a place where the community can grow, learn, and connect to its history while preserving a commercial property familiar to the area. Breathing new life into the JC Penney property by opening its doors to teach preservation building arts connects the existing fabric of the building to the surrounding city’s history as well as its future.
